Balcony

from On Flat Earth by Herbert Walker

/

lyrics

For a minute
I thought that I had it-
just kidding I barely grabbed it.
If someone's listening,
I think they'd find it boring.
Everything's beautiful here-
even our diseases.
How do I learn from my mistakes
if I haven't made them yet?

I feel wholeheartedly blank
like some grand granite idea.

Maybe we're trying too hard
trying to make this all last
maybe I'm taking too big
too big of a bite.
My brain's a parking garage
and everything's beautiful here-
but it could be better.
Getting really good at finding out
how much enough is.

I feel wholeheartedly blank
like some grand granite idea.

Every time we crash is 'cause we went to fast,
and what you got last night is something that you might
owe the next morning.
O look at the view, nothing you can't choose,
just a world of fruit rushing up to you,
falling off the balcony.
And I ate my glad til I'm doped and fat,
free of hurt and bad and there's something left-
something that I'm lacking.

I feel wholeheartedly blank,
like some grand granite idea.
